 Lurene Haines born in Montreal, Quebec, has lived all over the world but calls Vancouver Island home. After moving to the USA in the late 1980’s, Lurene began a successful career as an illustrator and writer. She is also accomplished in marketing and communications, and designs and builds web sites for her company, Web Fire Studio.
For more than 20 years, Lurene worked on a wide range of art projects from comics to serialized stories and newspaper columns to toy design, trading cards and movie posters. Her trading card art includes a unique Star Wars Galaxy trading card from Topps featuring an original Star Wars character.
A multiply published author, two of Lurene's books The Business of Comics and A Writer's Guide to the Business of Comics – in-depth manuals for aspiring comics professionals – have garnered extensive critical acclaim and an Eisner award nomination. A Writer's Guide to the Business of Comics was named to the New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Age List.
Lurene currently works on a wide range of projects including writing and illustrating a variety of children's picture books, the newest Chemainus mural scheduled for completion in the summer of 2010, and is partners in the
development of a unique movie-industry web business, stuntmancount.com.
Lurene returned home to Canada in 2008 to be near her family and currently lives in lovely Chemainus with her two kooky cats, Frankie and Nemo. There she devotes herself to her many projects, beekeeping, gardening, volunteer work, and spending as much time with her nieces and nephews as possible.
