MAY 9: CH$ LOVES TO TRAVEL BLOG-CONTEST LAUNCHED
The Chemainus Dollar has a whole new way of traveling: CH$ Loves To Travel. The blog recently launched by the Chemainus Monetary Foundation provides a monthly contest for travelers and visitors to submit their stories and photos of the Chemainus Dollar (CH$) around the world. "We want to see pictures of our beautiful Chemainus Dollar in faraway places, with noteworthy landmarks, in funny situations or with celebrities," said Board of Director member, Lurene Haines. "The goal of the blog-contest is to encourage our visitors and hometown travelers to show us how far afield the CH$ travels." To launch the contest, the CH$ Loves To Travel blog is giving away a collectible poster featuring all the denominations of CH$ and an uncirculated CH$1. APRIL 23: HISTORIC CHEMAINUS DOLLAR INAUGURAL EVENT A BIG SUCCESS
On Friday, April 23, 2010, the Chemainus Monetary Foundation successfully unveiled the amazing designs of the new Chemainus Dollar (CH$) with an enthusiastic and overflowing crowd of supporters. A parade from the Coastal Community Credit Union began the festivities. An RCMP vehicle led three pipers in front of the Art Bug, driven by Founder and CEO, Dr. Karl Schutz accompanied by Vice President, Shawna McPhillips. The parade continued with Isabel Askew followed by a Red Serge RCMP Officer escort leading the Brink’s Armoured Guard vehicle transporting the Chemainus Dollars. The parade travelled down Willow Street in Chemainus and arrived in front of the Chemainus Theatre Festival. The Brink’s guards were then escorted as the carried the secured case of Chemainus Dollars to the Playbill Dining Room.
Over 100 luncheon guest arrived in the dining room to enjoy a gourmet buffet luncheon by Master Chef Steve Hewson. Master of Ceremonies, Lou Roelofsen, presided and introduced Chemainus Monetary Foundation Founder and CEO, Dr. Karl Schutz. Dr. Schutz led the speakers which included Mayor Tom Walker and Joe Cristiano of Coastal Community Credit Union, the Chemainus Dollar Gold Medallion Sponsor. Following the speakers, the Chemainus Monetary Foundation Board of Directors manned the seven curtained windows and simultaneously unveiled the seven new Chemainus Dollar (CH$) banknote designs featuring a CH$1, CH$2, CH$5, CH$10, CH$20, CH$50, and CH$100. Lou Roelofsen then unfurled the two Welcome Tower banners suspended from the dining room ceiling to much fanfare and applause.
Following the unveiling, Mayor Tom Walker made the first purchase of Chemainus Dollars at the event and then all guests were invited to purchase Chemainus Dollars and Chemainus Dollar collectibles from the Chemainus Dollar Galleria set up on the dining room balcony. Afterward, Mayor Tom Walker, Dr. Karl Schutz, Emily Carr and Isabel Askew left for a buggy ride shopping spree in Chemainus, stopping first at the Chemainus Post Office to make the first purchase. Stops included Hansel and Gretel’s Candy Company, the Museum, Chemainus Foods and Chemainus Bakery.
Following the shopping spree, Emily Carr and Mayor Tom Walker visited the Chemainus Seniors Drop-In Centre on Willow Street for Tea with Emily Carr.

APRIL 15: CHEMAINUS MONETARY FOUNDATION BECOMES ANA MEMBER
The Chemainus Monetary Foundation became an official member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) - in the name of founder, Dr. Karl Schutz - last week. The ANA is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to educating and encouraging people to study and collect money and related items. With nearly 33,000 members, the Association serves the academic community, collectors and the general public with an interest in numismatics. The ANA helps all people discover and explore the world of money through its vast array of programs including its education and outreach, museum, library, publications, conventions and seminars. The CMF is proud to bring the Chemainus Dollar (CH$) to the ANA!
